Kevin Costner’s 18-Year Marriage with Christine Baumgartner Is Over: What Went Wrong?
After more than 18 years of marriage, Kevin Costner’s wife, Christine, requested a divorce from the Yellowstone actor on Tuesday, May 2.
Decision To Split
As TMZ reports, 49-year-old Baumgartner cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce petition. The couple has three children: Cayden, 15; Hayes, 14; and Grace, 12. Costner, 68, is the father of four other kids from prior marriages.
The divorce was confirmed in a statement to the media by Costner’s agent, who said, “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action.” The spokesperson also requested that their privacy be maintained to help the couple and their kids through this trying period.
Christine is requesting shared custody of the children. Kevin responded on Tuesday, asking for joint custody as well.
Christine is not seeking support from her husband. Laura Wasser, the disso-queen, submitted Kevin’s response, which reads, “Spousal support to be payable to petitioner pursuant to the parties’ Premarital Agreement.” In other words, there is a prenuptial agreement.
After dating for six years, Costner and Baumgartner married in September 2004. Costner and Baumgartner, who were open with each other about their desire to have children, had their first child in 2007.
Having divorced Cindy Silva after a 16-year marriage, this was Costner’s second wedding. With his part as Montana patriarch John Dutton in the well-liked television series “Yellowstone,” Costner has been keeping busy. Early this year, rumors surfaced that Costner could leave the program to concentrate on directing and acting in the forthcoming Western movie “Horizon.”
