The 'Game Of Thrones' Franchise Gets Another Prequel Based On Martin's Book

On Wednesday, April 12, HBO announced that the prequel to “Game of Thrones”, based on George R.R. Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” novels, is in development.

The Announcement

As per Variety, the prequel news was released at a presentation by Warner Bros. Discovery to the media and investors on April 12. The new prequel, titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight”, has been rumoured to be in production for some time, although it was unclear which section of the extensive Game of Thrones tales it will draw upon.

But on Wednesday’s event, it was confirmed that the television series is based on a collection of fantasy novels written by Martin that describe the feats of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years before the events of “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

In the realm of Game of Thrones, Dunk is a renowned knight, and Egg is his squire, both of whom tour the land addressing injustices.

Egg would later become Aegon V, the great-great-grandfather of Daenerys, while Dunk would go on to become an eminent member of the Kingsguard.

The presentation also revealed that the merged streaming service for HBO Max and Discovery+ would be branded as Max.

The Team Behind The Show

Martin will join the team with Ira Park, who served as a co-executive producer on Season 1 of “House of the Dragon” as writer and executive producer. Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis from “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon” will also serve as executive producers.

This is HBO’s most recent Westeros-related undertaking. Following Game of Thrones’ widespread popularity, the premium cabler rushed to launch various programmes set in Martin’s fictional universe.
